Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a Somali-born Dutch-American activist, author, and scholar. A former member of the Dutch Parliament, she is one of the most prominent voices in the world on the subjects of Islamic reform, women's rights, and the defence of Western liberal democratic values. Her personal journey — from a childhood in Somalia and Kenya, through escape from an arranged marriage, to becoming a leading public intellectual — has made her a towering and controversial figure in global debates about freedom, religion, and human rights.
Author of Infidel, Nomad, Heretic, and Prey, Hirsi Ali has been a research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and a founding member of the AHA Foundation, which works to protect women and girls from practices that violate their rights. Her decision to lend her name and voice to the International Freedom Coalition's launch reflects the coalition's commitment to the principles she has championed throughout her career.
